Dear Parents and Carers,
We are excited to tell you the plans for Lyndhurst’s International Evening on Thursday 27th September, 5.30pm to 7pm. We will celebrate the wide ethnic and cultural diversity of Lyndhurst with food, music, art and personal treasures from around the world. More details will follow next week but to wet your appetites, here are the headlines:
• As always, sharing traditional food that reflects the diversity of our school community is a big part of the evening and we invite and encourage everyone to bring something to share, especially dishes from around the world that reflect your family’s cultural history. Food will be served by the staff and each family will be given a “passport” to show where they have travelled to as they try foods from the five continents.
NB: Please remember to fill out the ingredients card to accompany any food you may bring along to the event. If you are unable to download the one that was emailed to you this week, please notify the office.
• We have exciting workshops and performances to look forward to, both at school during the week and on the evening itself, by;
Valerie Bloom MBE, the Jamaican performance poet;
Alex Pascall OBE, the musician and storyteller and his daughter Deirdre;
Mr Carvell’s ever-popular band Malphino
• We invite you and your children to bring to school any treasures that you have at home which reflect or celebrate your culture. We will let you know when – please do not bring anything in just yet. These will be photographed and made into an album to be added to the school's archives. (More details to follow.)
All in all it will be a very special evening and a wonderful way to start the new academic year.
We look forward to seeing many of you there - please look out for more details next week!
